Last Friday, Avila Day was celebrated with a liturgy. The theme was to be a Light for the World, just as Saint Teresa of Avila was a light for so many people in her life. Students completed an activity of creating stained-glass windows, symbolising the beauty within all of us when the light of others shines through us. The liturgy also involved the Avila House publicly recognising and thanking the House Captains of 2024 and introducing the new Captains for 2025. At recess and lunch, our 2024 House Captains sold gelato to the students and staff of Mount Carmel, raising money for Vinnies. Despite the overcast and cloudy weather, an incredible amount of money was raised! Thank you to all those who purchased a gelato to support our chosen charity and to all people (especially the Captains) of the mighty Avila House, who have shown their support and dedication throughout the year. 2025 will be yellow!

Our recent orientation day for the 2025 Year 7 cohort was a great success. Over 240 students from more than 40 schools joined us, bringing a mix of excitement and nerves as they participated in a range of engaging activities. We’re eagerly anticipating welcoming you officially next year!

Last Thursday lunch, the staff and students went head-to-head in some hotly contested dodgeball matches as part of the Avila Day celebrations at the College. The teachers reigned supreme, winning 3 games to 1. It was fantastic to see so many students wanting to play and so many students coming to watch to support their peers, a true testament to the sense of community instilled here at Mount Carmel. The teachers have come out on top in every staff vs student event this year, hopefully the students can get some revenge in 2025!
