On Friday, 1 August, volunteer students in Years 10, 11 and 12, attended the Vinnies Winter Sleep Out. This was a wonderful evening from 4pm-7pm, led by the Youth Ministry Leaders and Carmelite Captains which showcased the generosity of spirit from the students and families of Mount Carmel. Kelly McCronhan, the Vinnies Youth Engagement Officer, informed us about the alarming statistics of homelessness in Australia and the good works Vinnies does in serving our local community. We also packed essentials kits from the donations collected and wrote heartfelt sentiments to be sent to those in need this winter. It was a rewarding experience, highlighting our Marist family spirit, by helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

The School Sport Australia Swimming Championships were held this week. Representing Mount Carmel, the Diocese and CCC were Year 12 students Nathan Williams and Daniel Lill. Nathan came away with 4 medals from his 5 races. Daniel obtained his personal best in the 100m butterfly by shaving 10 seconds off of his previous timings. Both young men have been acknowledged as outstanding role models for junior swimmers in the NSW squad and are to be commended for displaying both outstanding sporting and leadership skills. We congratulate the students on their performance!

A busy week in the Mount Carmel Library, with the Word Jumble of the Day, the Games Club, and the Crocheting and Weaving Club. A few of the many community-building opportunities that students are involved in at the College!
