COMMUNITY | St Mary's Student, Claudia Weeks (Year 10) is one of three teenage volunteer surf lifesavers who rescued a man from a rip at Wollongong's City Beach last week. Claudia, who had never been involved in a rescue before that morning, used her judgement to change her surf/rescue equipment (from a board to a tube) due to the huge surf and potentially dangerous conditions. Shayna worked on the shoreline, critically communicating with beachgoers, emergency services and recruited Nate for more help to bring the man back in safely. We are incredibly proud of Claudia, Shayna and Nate on this successful rescue mission. Their actions have most importantly saved a life, and at the same time demonstrated true team effort and their extensive surf rescue knowledge, which they've credited to years of training.
