REFUGEE WEEK | In recognition of refugee week, today five students attended a Community Conversation with people seeking Asylum. This was hosted at the Good Samaritan Congregational Centre at Glebe. We were fortunate and moved to hear the stories of Idrissa and Dindo as asylum seekers in Australia. The difficulties they have had to overcome and continue to experience. This provided us with further understanding of the process and experiences of asylum seekers from their perspective. We were encouraged to know that there are support networks such as the Jesuit Refugee Service (aus.jrs.net) but more needs to be done. We were encouraged to become more politically aware and to speak to our MP’s. We can also take action by donating food, toiletries and vouchers. The day opened our eyes to the fact that, we can be a part of the solution and that every refugee and asylum seeker has a story. #refugeeweek #goodsams #asylumseekers #courage
