Quail Fact Friday! Did you know field researchers have observed extraordinary reproductive strategies used by mountain quail? The breeding pair creates two nests at the same time. The male incubates one while the female incubates the other. Known as “rapid, multi-clutch monogamy,” this nesting strategy has never been reported in any other monogamous species. Using this reproductive strategy, females can lay up to 26 eggs during one nesting period! Mountain quail typically begin forming pair bonds in late March and begin their nesting period from April to July. #quailforever #quailfactfriday

Do you know your dirt? Identifying the soil type and condition on a property can help landowners make the most impact when they are improving wildlife habitat on their land. A site visit with a Quail Forever Farm Bill biologist can be a great way to identify what soil type is on a property and create a management plan which reflects that. Quail Fact Friday! As Midwest winter finally gives way to spring, the iconic “Bob-white” call begins echoing across the heartland. The shrubby cover used to hide from predators and the icy chill of January is now a stage for the spring show. You can find male bobwhite quail perched on fence posts and shrub thickets or edge feathering, making their presence known. The large coveys of winter are breaking up as individuals begin to form pair-bonds and find territory for nesting. Are you one of the lucky ones to hear the springtime serenade this year? Let us know in the comments. Photo by: Josh Marshall

20 Years and Counting - The Story of Quail Forever There is only one way to tell a story, and that is to start at the beginning. This is the story of Quail Forever, an inspiring tale of leadership, unity, and a deep-rooted commitment to conserving quail habitat across America. In August 2005, Quail Forever was founded, and the first chapter was formed. From those humble beginnings, we have grown into a national force for conservation. Our work spans the prairies of the Great Plains, the deserts of the West, and the pine savannas of the Southeast. In 2021, we reached 5 million acres of habitat improvement. By 2024, we surpassed 7 million acres, more than 20,000 members, 220 quail-focused staff biologists, and 200 active Quail Forever chapters. But this is just the beginning.
