Quail Fact Friday! Throughout late April into May, mountain quail in Oregon have been forming pair bonds and will soon begin their nesting period (roughly 20-25 days). Peak hatch in Oregon tends to occur throughout May. The males have been calling and defending their territory. They have been facing females, fluffing their feathers, and drooping their wings in courtship. Nesting sites are typically on the ground in dense cover, usually sheltered by shrubs, logs, or grass clumps. Nests will lie in shallow depressions and are lined with grass, pine needles, leaves, and feathers. Interestingly, eastern Oregon mountain quail have been known to nest under rock structures! #quailforever #quailfactfriday #thehabitatorganization

Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever chapters across the country are hosting Hands-On Habitat Workdays throughout the month of May! Visit https://quailforever.org/handsonhabitat to find a Hands-On Habitat Workday near you. At Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever, habitat improvement is at the core of our mission. Hands-On Habitat is an invitation to our community to take a hands-on approach to enhancing upland habitat in your area. Now is the perfect opportunity to learn about your local chapter, engage your community, have fun, and move the needle for our mission of upland habitat conservation! This year, we're challenging our chapters, volunteers, and supporters to dedicate time throughout May to host or participate in habitat projects. These boots-on-the-ground efforts are not only essential for preserving upland landscapes, but they also provide an opportunity to connect with and engage your local community. Hands-On Habitat workdays are the perfect way to directly contribute to our mission and make a lasting impact. Hands-On Habitat month is supported by onX Hunt #pheasantsforever #quailforever #thehabitatorganization #handsonhabitat

The Hunter's Table // Smoked Quail with Mint This recipe is inspired by Chef Anthony Warrior of the Absentee Shawnee, Mvskoke and Sicangu tribes. Warrior’s favorite way to prepare quail is with wood and smoke – a fitting preparation for the current “fire issue” of Quail Forever Journal. Visit the link in our bio for the full recipe and story. Enjoy! #quailforever
