Quail Fact Friday! 💡 Did you know scaled quail and Gambel’s quail have been known to hybridize in certain areas where their ranges overlap?! These hybrid quail often exhibit unique characteristics, blending features like the scaled quail’s scaly plumage with the Gambel’s quail’s distinctive head plume. This hybrid scaled x Gambel’s quail was photographed on February 20, 2024, in southeast Arizona. It was part of a larger covey of Gambel’s quail. A covey of scaled quail was also seen at the same time within 1/4 mile of the location. While hybridization is rare, it’s a fascinating example of how quail adapt to their environments. 📷: @keithrcrowley #quailforever #quail #gambelsquail #quailfactfriday
