Happy Mother’s Day! This year, we wanted to honor the women that introduced us to the outdoors, nurtured our passion, or otherwise just put up with our obsession. We couldn’t think of a better way to do that than to reach out to our team at PF & QF and have them share their photos and stories. The response was overwhelming, which only speaks to the importance mothers and grandmothers play in all of our lives. #quailforever

Quail Fact Friday! In the Midwest, bobwhite quail are kicking off their nesting season – but late May and early June also bring the buzz of haying equipment. Sadly, that timing overlaps with peak nesting, and haying can be deadly to ground-nesting birds and their broods. Here’s how to help: 1) Delay haying or mowing until July when possible – this gives nests time to hatch and broods time to grow. 2) Leave a 60-foot uncut buffer around fields until mid-July to provide refuge. 3) Avoid mowing in spirals or concentric circles – this traps wildlife in the center. 4) Limit full-field disturbances during nesting season (May–July). A small change in timing can make a big impact for bobwhites and other ground nesting birds. #quailforever #thehabitatorganization #quailfactfriday

On this new episode of On the Wing Podcast host Bob St.Pierre talks with PF & QF’s Marissa Jensen and Andy Fondrick, along with volunteers Mike Gruenke and Jeff Ennis from Washington's Spokane Inland Empire Chapter of Pheasants Forever. They discuss winning last year's $7,500 Hands-On Habitat grand prize from onX Hunt and how it motivated their chapter to undertake an even larger habitat project in Washington’s scablands this spring. “With the approval of this amendment, the months-long speculation concerning the sale of public lands is no longer hypothetical,” said Ariel Wiegard, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s vice president of government affairs. “The House Committee on Natural Resources added this to their reconciliation bill at the 11th hour with no opportunity for the American people – who own these properties – to offer input. These elected officials also chose not to follow long-standing processes and criteria that would ensure these sales are done in the public interest and which would keep the revenue of public land sales in the conservation realm. This process exists for a reason, and Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever believe that process needs to be followed.” Read the full press release at the link below. https://bit.ly/431odeL #pheasantsforever #quailforever #thehabitatorganization
