Highlight a recently established Build a Wildlife Area during Build a Wildlife Area Week, this summer Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources dedicated a 172.57-acre addition to the state-owned Willow Slough Fish and Wildlife Area. The newest tract will be restored to oak savanna habitat and will provide quality habitat for bobwhite quail and other wildlife species. Here’s how it works: In high-quality habitat, the home range of a bobwhite quail covey is about 40 acres. While not all BAWA land occurs in quail country, that many acres has the potential to support over 5,500 coveys of quail!
