RFS CADETS AT TRAINING CAMP FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Mamre Cadet Rural Fire Brigade commenced training for the NSW RFS State Championships last month. The team of students from Years 7, 8 and 9 spent two days in a training camp at Castlereagh where they developed their teamwork, problem solving and communication skills, as well as completing a range of challenging scenarios using fire tankers and other firefighting equipment. They also visited the RFS District Fire Control Centre where they were issued with their team uniforms. #mamrelearning The NSW RFS State Championships will be held in Wollongong from 9-11 September.

6B have been learning about Forces. On Friday they investigated the effects of air resistance by designing three parachutes. The best parachutes were the slowest to reach the ground. #mamrelearning

Last eek Year 10 students attended BStreetsmart at Sydney's Allphones Arena as a part of their PDHPE Road Safety unit. During the morning, students witness a confronting car crash re-enactment. This was followed by real life stories from young car crash survivors which drove the message home that this can happen to them.After the morning session, students were able to visit a large number of interactive displays teaching them about road safety issues. #mamrelearning

This term Year 11 Biology have been learning about the effects of abiotic factors (such as temperature and light) on plant growth. Their current assessment task is to complete an experiment of their own design looking at the effect of these factors on plant growth at home. An excursion to Longneck Lagoon at Maraylya provided students with valuable first-hand experiences completing fieldwork. We’re now at the writing up stage, where an important step is to have your draft work peer reviews by others. #mamrelearning

Yesterday Year 4 visited the Australiana Pioneer Village. Life back then was very different to how it is today. Even doing the washing and ironing was a whole day task! #mamrelearning

Year 6 are studying different systems of government this term. The task was to complete the longest marble run they could make as a team. To develop an empathic understanding of fairness and equity, we created an inequitable playing field where one team had less time and fewer resources! The lack of fairness was keenly felt! #mamrelearning

Today the children from the 3 Year Old Program conducted an experiment using Bicarbonate Soda, vinegar and food colouring. They were fascinated and really enjoyed watching the colours foam and mix together. #mamrelearning

Exciting things are happening in the library! The Scholastic Book Fair has arrived. The library will be open 8am to 3.40pm daily for parents and students to purchase books. Please bring a reusable bag as we have a limited amount of plastic bags. Pre-K to Year 2 have been busy creating artwork from the book Bear in space and are excited to meet the author Deborah Abela. Under the careful guidance of Mr Petersen, our Year 7 Digital Technologies students have started manufacturing their coasters by using the school's laser cutting technology . The detail of each of the coasters produced is quite astonishing. Well done Year 7 #mamrelearning
