Mostly it’s about the dogs — And the hunt. The cool mornings, the adrenaline rush of a flush. Those wonders drive us all, but for the outdoorsmen and women of the Track2wing Project, it’s also about accessing what makes them who they are in a way few of us can understand. Since its inception four years ago, the Anisfield-Wilson Track2wing Project has granted 45 Action trackchairs to individuals with mobility challenges who want to train and hunt with gun dogs. While the connection to the bird dog world is central to the Track2wing mission, simply getting back into the field to fish, hunt turkeys or deer, and traverse wild terrain is part of the project’s bigger picture as well. The 2023 Quail Hunting Forecast is available now, and we are pumped up for the season ahead. As you start organizing your quail hunting itinerary for this fall, be sure to refer to the forecast for a state-by-state analysis on what you can expect when you hit the field. 🔗 Link in our bio. Whether you’re planning a multi-state adventure or are just curious about how the coveys near you are doing, this forecast has all the info you need to find success. The rest is up to you. So, get ready to check your quail spots — or better yet, find a new one. Because there’s a covey out there somewhere, holding tight in cover just long enough for you to turn your back on them before blitzing the horizon. Last weekend, longtime Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever employee Jim Inglis was honored by his alma mater, Mississippi State University. Inglis was one of eight former students inducted into the 2023 Alumni Fellows program and was recognized during MSU’s home football game against the University of Alabama. Now a 22-year veteran of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, Inglis has served the organization in countless capacities — from chapter volunteer to the organization’s first farm bill biologist coordinator — to his current role as the director of government affairs. “Jim’s career path shows just how dedicated he is to conservation,” said Ron Leathers, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s chief conservation officer. “He’s been involved in our habitat mission at every level and continues to be a tremendous voice for the organization. His impact, not only on Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, but on habitat conservation in general, is profound. Jim deserves this recognition and much more for his decades of service.” Read more about Jim and his MSU Alumni Fellows induction, at the link below. https://quailforever.org/BlogLanding/Blogs/Quail-Forever/Jim-Inglis-Honored-by-Mississippi-State-University.aspx

PF & QF applaud Congress for sending the “Protecting Hunting Heritage & Education Act” to President Biden for his signature. The bill clarifies that the Dept. of Education’s ban on using federal funds for weapons training programs DOES NOT apply to hunter education, archery in schools, school-sponsored shooting teams, and other outdoor programs. The bill passed both the U.S. House & Senate in less than 24 hours with only one negative vote, a sign of widespread support for youth enrichment programs helping create and shape the next generation of hunter-conservationists.
