An Important Day at Cullman High School Today, Cullman High School welcomed the Love Like Lexi (LLL) Project — a powerful initiative focused on suicide awareness, prevention, and reminding students of their worth, purpose, and potential. The program was inspired by the heartbreaking loss of Lexi Webb, a vibrant young woman who seemed to have it all. Her story is a sobering reminder that mental health matters and that the struggles people face aren’t always visible. District Attorney Champ Crocker and Chief Joey Duncan were honored to attend today’s event and witness the impact of a community coming together in support of its youth: “It’s one of the most important things we can do, show up for our students, remind them they matter, and make sure they know they’re not alone.” — Chief Joey Duncan A heartfelt thank-you to the LLL team for bringing this life-giving message to Cullman High School, and to everyone who continues to be a light in someone’s darkness. #LoveLikeLexi #LLL #MentalHealthMatters #CullmanStrong #YouAreNotAlone

🇺🇸 Remembering September 11, 2001 🇺🇸 Today, we pause to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who answered the call on September 11th, 2001. We remember the first responders who ran toward danger, the service members who defended our freedom in the years that followed, and the everyday citizens who showed resilience and unity in the face of tragedy. May we never forget their sacrifice, and may we always strive to live with the same courage, strength, and unity that carried our nation through those difficult days. The Cullman Police Department stands with our community and our nation in remembrance. #NeverForget #September11

🌍 Welcoming International Students to Cullman 🌍 On Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting some special guests from the CPRST J1 Program, brought by Noah Carpenter from Cullman Parks, Recreation, & Sports Tourism. The J1 Program is a travel, work, and education initiative formed through a partnership between CPRST and CIEE. It brings international college students to Cullman each summer to work at Wild Water while on break from their studies. Many students participate to strengthen their English skills, gain valuable cultural experiences, and prepare for opportunities in the global workforce. We enjoyed giving them some Cullman Police Department swag, a quick tour, and lunch at Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe. It was a great time connecting, learning, and sharing a piece of Cullman hospitality! A big thank you to Noah Carpenter and the CPRST team for letting us be part of this experience. 💙

🇺🇸 Honoring Our Heroes 🇺🇸 Today, Chief Duncan, alongside the Cullman County Commission, the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, and the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs, paused to honor and remember all Alabama veterans who have tragically taken their own lives. September is Veteran Suicide Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, break the stigma, and stand united in supporting the men and women who served our country. Every day, around 17 veterans in the United States die by suicide—a sobering reminder that our duty to them does not end when they come home. We can all play a part in making a difference: ✅ Check in on your veteran friends and family. ✅ Listen without judgment. ✅ Share resources like the Veterans Crisis Line—dial 988 then press 1 or text 838255 for immediate help. ✅ Support local veteran programs and organizations. Our veterans stood for us—let’s continue to stand for them. 💙 #VeteranSuicideAwareness #NeverForgotten #CPDCares

August 25, 2025 Verdict Reached in 2023 Cullman Homicide Case The Cullman Police Department announces that a jury in Cullman County has found John Drozda guilty in the 2023 shooting death of Thomas Brannon. This verdict brings closure to a case that has been a top priority for the department since its inception. On September 17, 2023, officers responded to a reported shooting near the Boatright Apartments on Hickory Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Thomas Brannon had succumbed to a gunshot wound. The swift response of patrol officers and cooperation from witnesses facilitated the rapid identification of a suspect. Through meticulous collection of physical evidence and multiple eyewitness statements, investigators identified John Drozda as the individual responsible for the shooting. With assistance from the FBI North Alabama Violent Crime Task Force (NAVCTF) and the Hartselle Police Department, Drozda was located and arrested in Hartselle, Alabama, without incident. Following a thorough trial, on August 21, 2025, a Cullman County jury returned a guilty verdict against Drozda. He is scheduled for sentencing on October 1, 2025. Chief Joey Duncan commends the outstanding efforts of Investigator Sgt. Thomason and Assisting Investigator Watkins, as well as the entire Cullman Police Department, including patrol officers and the investigative team, for their dedication and professionalism throughout this case. We also express sincere appreciation to District Attorney Champ Crocker, Assistant District Attorney Nate Brock, and the entire prosecution team for their exemplary work in securing this conviction and ensuring justice was served. This case underscores the department's unwavering commitment to justice for victims and the safety of the community through collaborative efforts and strong law enforcement partnerships.
