On Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Cullman Police Department, Sgt. Joey Duncan received Cullman Daily’s first annual Hero of the Year Award! Cullman Daily’s Jamie Speakman and Sam Roberts presented the award to Sgt. Duncan in a ceremony attended by Chief Kenny Culpepper and fellow CPD colleagues. On December 2, 2021, Cullman Daily announced their People’s Choice Awards and asked the public to nominate individuals and businesses for awards in over 50 categories. Their goal was to make the voting as accurate as possible, with one vote per IP address. Nominations were received December 6-17, 2021, and the top three nominees in each category were voted on December 20-31, 2021. With over 5,000 votes, Sgt. Duncan was the People’s Choice as #HerooftheYear! Thank you, Cullman Daily, for recognizing Sgt. Duncan and the outstanding service he provides to the CPD and to our community! And congratulations, Sgt. Duncan, for the well-deserved award!

Due to the ongoing streetscape project construction in front of the CPD, the #SafeExchangeZone has been moved to the parking lot behind the Cullman County Museum (201 2nd Ave NE). Police personnel will not be present or involved in the exchanges that take place in the Safe Exchange Zone, but the zone will be clearly marked and well-lit. The CPD urges everyone to continue to follow safety guidelines when buying and selling items online. Those guidelines can be found on our website at cullmanal.gov/depts/cpd!

Sheriff Matt Gentry and the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your assistance... beginning tonight, Christmas Eve, and into Christmas morning, BOLO for an individual who goes by the name “Santa Claus.” We are asking for everyone to be on the lookout for a man with white hair, rosy cheeks, and a long white beard - who goes by the alias Saint Nick. We also believe he is accompanied by flying reindeer. Deputies believe that he may be flying rooftop to rooftop, leaving toys for the good girls and boys. Don't worry! It has been made clear that the Deputies are not to detain or apprehend Santa, but they are to assist in spreading Christmas cheer. https://www.noradsanta.org
