We had an absolutely amazing time with Happy Campers. We had one of their vehicles for a week in April 2025, trekking across Southern Iceland to Hofn and back. We had a Happy 3, a large Volkswagen camper for two adults and two children aged 4 and 7.
We had a great trip. Despite warnings, the weather was perfect. Just one rainy morning, and days generally about 10 degrees.
The camper was in good condition, drove well, and was well set up for family camping with a cooking and sleeping setups. We liked that this van had front facing rear seats. This was a key factor in selecting Happy Campers for child safety - some other companies have side facing seats that are not appropriate for booster seats or place children in the front seat which did not feel safe for us. We were very comfortable with the Happy Campers setup.
There were lots of little extras including a wifi hotspot and bocce set that we enjoyed. We had one spot of trouble with a malfunctioning heater. Happy Campers fixed this problem appropriately and made things more than right for us. Hiccups come with the territory - this is camping across a rugged country, and some amount of problem solving and slight changes of plan have to be expected.
The shuttles were a good experience as well - some other companies had drivers with signs with a half dozen companies walk through the airport arrival area quickly with no one aware they had come and gone without their people. Happy Campers staff were brightly marked in green with big orange signs.
Overall, great experience with Happy Campers. We would recommend them to friends or strangers. If we return to Iceland we would use them again.
