What are social media feeds?

A “social media feed” refers to the stream of content users see when they log into a social media platform.

This content is typically a mixture of posts, photos, videos, updates, and other forms of media from accounts they follow, as well as advertisements and other recommended content.

Here’s a breakdown of what this entails for several major social media platforms:

Facebook

The News Feed is the continuously updating list of stories in the middle of your home page. This includes status updates, photos, videos, links, app activity, and likes from people, Pages, and groups that you follow on Facebook.

Twitter

Your timeline is the main feed that presents tweets from users you follow and retweets and promoted tweets (ads).

Instagram

When you open the app, you’re presented with a feed of photos and videos from accounts you follow, interspersed with ads and sometimes recommended content.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn feed showcases updates from your connections, posts from people you don’t directly connect with but are in your extended network, articles, and ads.

Snapchat

While Snapchat is largely based on direct snaps between users, the Discover section offers a feed of content from popular creators, media outlets, and brands.

TikTok

The “For You” page is a feed that showcases a mix of videos tailored to the user’s interests based on previous interactions, as well as trending content. There’s also a “Following” page that displays content from accounts the user follows.

Pinterest

The main page showcases a feed of pins from users and boards you follow and recommended content based on your interests.

Using our social media aggregator, you can embed all of these social media feeds on your website.
