What is the Instagram API?
The Instagram API is Meta's official way for apps to read Instagram content. EmbedSocial connects to it for you: add your Instagram business account, hashtags or mentions as sources, then call EmbedSocial endpoints with one API key to get posts, search results and Stories as JSON. You get captions, media, links, dates, hashtags and engagement counts. API access is part of the Premium plan, and it does not publish to Instagram.
Your posts, hashtag posts and mentions in one call
Put any mix of Instagram sources in a widget, then read everything it holds with its widget reference. Page through up to 200 posts at a time, narrow by date, or filter by keyword.

Search every Instagram post you have imported
Query across all your sources instead of one widget. Filter by source, keyword, date, tag, rating, AI score or rights status, and page with a cursor.

Instagram Stories have their own endpoint
Stories disappear from Instagram after 24 hours. Connect them as a source and they stay in EmbedSocial, so your app can keep showing them.

- Needs an Instagram business account. A personal account will not return Stories
What Instagram lets us pull
The API can only return what EmbedSocial could pull from Instagram in the first place. These limits come from Instagram's own API.
Hashtags cover the last 24 hours
A hashtag feed pulls 20 Top Posts and 20 Most Recent posts from the last 24 hours. It needs an Instagram business account connected to a Facebook page.
Mentions need the Facebook account
Mention posts need the Facebook account that manages the connected Instagram account, for Instagram API privacy reasons.
Some music Reels are missing
Instagram does not share some Reels that contain copyrighted music through its official API, so those cannot be pulled.

How much does the Instagram API cost?

What is the Instagram Graph API?
It is Meta's API for Instagram professional accounts (business and creator). EmbedSocial pulls your posts, hashtags, mentions and Stories through Instagram's official API, so you call our endpoints instead of Meta's.
Is the Instagram Basic Display API still available?
No. Meta retired the Basic Display API on December 4, 2024. To pull posts now, connect an Instagram business account. EmbedSocial connects with Instagram login or with Facebook, and Facebook gives more reliable auto-sync.
Can I get Instagram hashtag posts through the API?
Yes. Add a hashtag source, put it in a widget, and read it with the posts endpoint. A hashtag feed pulls 20 Top Posts and 20 Most Recent posts from the last 24 hours, and needs an Instagram business account connected to a Facebook page.
Can I get Instagram Stories through the API?
Yes, from their own endpoint, GET /v2/api/stories/stories. Stories come from a connected Instagram business account and stay in EmbedSocial after they expire on Instagram.
Where do I find my API key?
In your EmbedSocial account under Integrations, in the EmbedSocial API Key section. API access is part of the Premium and Enterprise plans.
Can I publish to Instagram with the EmbedSocial API?
No. The EmbedSocial API does not publish to social networks. If you need to publish or schedule posts programmatically, use InvisibleAPI, the social media publishing API built by the EmbedSocial team. Instagram and X are live today, with more platforms on the way.
What happens when Instagram changes its API?
