Compare TikTok Competitor Hashtags in Google Sheets

Use EmbedSocial’s TikTok competitor hashtag agent to find out which hashtags work for your brand and which ones are working for your competitor.

One connection. Runs on your live EmbedSocial data.

What does it do?

Connect EmbedSocial with Claude or ChatGPT and Google Drive to create an agent that pulls videos from your TikTok account and the competitor videos you add. It then pulls the hashtags out of every caption. The agent counts how often each brand uses each hashtag and calculates average engagement per hashtag. It also flags hashtags your competitor uses that you don’t, then exports the comparison into a spreadsheet.

Useful for

  • Finding the hashtags that actually perform: engagement per hashtag, not just how often it’s used;
  • Spotting gaps in your hashtag strategy: see the hashtags your competitor wins with that you’ve never tried;
  • Benchmarking content side by side: compare your videos and a competitor’s top videos on the same metrics.

How to compare TikTok Competitor Hashtags in Google Sheets

  1. Create your EmbedSocial account. Sign up for a free EmbedSocial trial to connect your TikTok account and turn on the MCP.
  2. Connect your TikTok account as a source. Add your brand’s TikTok account so EmbedSocial collects your videos.
  3. Add your competitor’s videos. Paste the links to the competitor TikTok videos you want to compare, such as their top or campaign videos.
  4. Connect Google Drive in your AI tool. Make sure your AI environment can create or update a spreadsheet.
  5. Set up the EmbedSocial MCP in Claude or ChatGPT. Paste the MCP URL into your AI tool and authorize access with your EmbedSocial account.
  6. Run the prompt. Ask your AI tool to compare the hashtags and export the results into Google Sheets.

Note: Depending on the connectors you are using, you may be prompted to authenticate your platform connections by logging into your accounts. On TikTok, you can track your own account automatically, but competitor videos have to be added one link at a time. Adding individual videos is available on the Pro plan.

Real-world use case

Imagine your competitor’s TikToks keep outperforming yours and you suspect their hashtag strategy is part of it. Instead of copying captions into a spreadsheet by hand, you ask Claude or ChatGPT:

The prompt

Using the EmbedSocial MCP, pull my TikTok videos from [widget] and the competitor videos added as sources. Extract every hashtag from the captions. For each brand, calculate how often each hashtag is used, average engagement per hashtag, and the top 10 hashtags by engagement. List the hashtags the competitor uses that I don’t. Export the results into Google Sheets with a raw data tab, a hashtag comparison tab, and a summary with recommendations.

Your AI tool pulls both sets of videos, breaks down the hashtags, and builds a spreadsheet that shows which hashtags to test next.

Prefer to build this into your own app instead of running it from a prompt? The same posts, mentions, reviews and widget analytics are available through the social media API.
